XRS Rocket Racing Lightning McQueen Review

The XRS series is back, and the cars look as ridiculous as ever! This time around, the gimmick (that makes the cars cost $6 in the U.S. instead of 4) is that the cars have flames that spin when you roll the back wheels, and plastic, pit-stop barrier-like "Blast Walls." The cars themselves are now missing their spoilers, and have lots of interesting details, like having their initials written on their hoods, and having all of their windows bolted up. Although a plot is not detailed on the hardback, this XRS race clearly focuses on dangerously high speeds.

This concept makes these XRS racers look pretty weird. Having no spoiler is probably the big thing making these cars look "off." But, I think that the flames are really what makes these cars look strange. They're just shooting out of the back and are at such an odd angle..

Getting into the specifics of Lightning himself, I quite like the color scheme. Just like his Drag racing variant, black has been added as a third major color on Lightning, in addition to red and orange, and it makes him look pretty cool. The font for his "95" is pretty different, it's a much bolder font. Another detail that I like is that everything is boarded up. Bolts are painted (and even molded in some places), showing that these cars are ready to move fast. Having these bolts on the top fin of the car is another nice touch, showing just how much he was modified. As for his expression, it looks a bit off to me for some reason. It looks like his eyes are a bit farther apart than usual.

As for the blast wall, of course it's there to make the higher price point more "worth it," and I don't really mind that. It's a nice accessory.

Anyway, those are my thoughts. Let me know what you all think about this car in the comments, and make sure to check back soon for another post! Bye, guys!
